Oakwood is in a fantastic position to offer a 1 year instructor training programme starting in September every year. You will gain the skills and experience to become a qualified instructor by taking part in nationally recognised courses as well as receiving ongoing mentoring and training to grow your experience. Whether it’s a gap year, a change of career or somewhere in between, your year at Oakwood will be one to remember and it could also play a part in setting up your future.

Oakwood was purchased over 20 years ago and has undergone rapid transformation since then. What was once a pig farm is now an extremely busy charity, delivering quality outdoor educational activities using our 100 bed outdoor residential activity centre to serve schools from near and far. As well as running the outdoor centre, Oakwood has a large purpose built indoor climbing centre on the same site and provides climbing activities for a wide range of people locally, from excellent bouldering, weekly NICAS and NIBAS courses as well as birthday parties and drop in sessions. With this experience, and with an amazing, committed staff team at hand, Oakwood is in the best position possible to be able to deliver this training course.

An action packed course
You can expect a seriously fun year, gaining on the job experience supported by attending nationally recognised training courses using these skills to be able to lead outdoor activity and indoor climbing sessions. Throughout the year you will be working and learning at the same time, developing invaluable hard and soft skills that are transferable to other centres around the UK as well as other industries.

After this year is complete, you will be able to apply for outdoor instructor jobs confidently and this career could lead you around the UK or even abroad.
