At Oakwood the safety and wellbeing of our visitors and staff has always been of upmost importance. We hold an AALA (Adventure Activities Licencing Authority) licence and our staff hold NGB qualifications for activities where applicable. We work hard to ensure that our programmes are delivered to a very high standard.

Health and Safety Policy Statement

Oakwood Youth Challenge’s goal is to prevent accidents or sickness occurring as a direct result of it’s operational activities. Oakwood recognises and accepts it’s Health & Safety duties under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999.   Through the duties imposed upon it’s Management and carried out by the Centre Manager, Oakwood seeks to achieve high standards of Health & Safety for it’s employees, customers, contractors and visitors in order to prevent personal injury and ill health. The Centre Director will actively support and encourage the Centre Manager and Employees to maintain high standards of Health and Safety throughout the organisation and will take steps to ensure compliance with all legislation and statutory duties. Oakwood will keep under review and monitor performance in safety matters at the Centre.

General Safety

To ensure the comfort, safety and wellbeing of our visitors at all times we have set policies and procedures in place. These include fire safety, first aid, vehicle safety and child protection. All of our staff hold Emergency First Aid at work certificates and have recieved at least Level one training in Safeguading Children and Young people. Our safeguarding officer has extensive experience in working with safeguarding issues and is Level 3 trained.We also have a centre safeguarding policy.

Activity Safety

All of our activities are operated within clearly defined safety guidelines and standard operating procedures. Each activity is risk assessed and all instructors are trained and qualified to an appropriate level.

We are a member of CCI (Christian Camping International); an association of Christian orgainsations and individuals involved in camps, holidays conference and outdoor centre ministries.
